Description

Chrome Purple gives this Off-Road Hoverboard a polished violet shell that mirrors its surroundings. Underneath, a pair of 400 W motors turns 8.5-inch off-road tyres with a deep tread, meant for rough surfaces like grass and sand, ridden on private ground only.

Lean in and it pulls away, reaching up to 9.3 mph (15 km/h), while the range on a full charge reaches about 6 miles (10 km) at most. Your phone can stream music to the board's speaker over Bluetooth, and the LED lights put a glow on the chrome.

Questions riders ask

How do you control a self-balancing board?

With your body weight alone. Put a foot on each footpad, lean slightly towards your toes to set off and towards your heels to brake or go backwards. Turning comes from pressing one foot forward a little more than the other. Keep to a slow walking speed for the first minutes.

What is the heaviest rider it takes?

Up to 120 kg, counting anything the rider is carrying, such as a rucksack.

How do I keep it in good condition?

Wipe the tyres and the frame clean after riding through grass or sand, top the battery up to full before each outing, and check the board every so often for worn tread, cracks or loose parts. If something looks damaged, leave it switched off and contact us.

How does it differ from the 6.5-inch boards?

Compared with the 6.5-inch boards, this one has bigger 8.5-inch off-road tyres, two 400 W motors (800 W in total) instead of 700 W, a 36 V rather than a 24 V battery, and a 120 kg instead of a 100 kg limit.

Can I fit a seat to this board later?

Yes. Whichever of our two boards you own will take either Hoverkart seat, plain or sprung. Strapping the frame on is a job of minutes, and slackening the straps lets the board out again when you want to stand.

What age is it for?

The manufacturer's age guidance is from around 8, always with an adult supervising, on private land and nowhere else. Weight counts as much as age: up to 100 kg for the smaller board, up to 120 kg for the larger one.

Where in Great Britain can I ride it?

Nowhere but private land, and then with the landowner's consent. British law files hoverboards under powered transporters, which shuts out every public space: streets and pavements, cycle lanes, car parks and parks included. Riding there is an offence, and the police may take the board.

What extras does the board have?

On the board: a Bluetooth speaker, LED lighting and non-slip footpads. The order also includes a carry bag.

Charger and plug

Plug
UK 3-pin (BS 1363), fused
Charger model
[TO CONFIRM: charger model number]

Your board's own charger, from its box, is the only one to use. A charger built for a different battery can start a fire; if yours is lost or damaged, ask us before you buy a new one. Plug it straight into a wall socket and do not use a travel adaptor.

Charging at home

  • Where: indoors, in a dry room at normal room temperature, on tiles, stone or concrete, with nothing that can burn close by.
  • Not in a hallway, on the stairs or by the front door: escape routes stay clear.
  • When: only when the pack is no longer warm from the ride, and only while you are in and awake. No overnight charging.
  • Done: unplug the charger. Never cover the board or the charger.

Stop and contact us

Warning signs: the pack bulges, feels hot to the touch, leaks, smells of chemicals, fizzes, crackles or smokes. Stop, unplug, move away from it and contact us. A damaged battery is never ridden or charged again.

Fire: leave the building with everyone else and phone 999 from outside; putting it out is a job for the fire service.

Recycling

Household bins, including the recycling bin, are the wrong place for this board, its pack or its charger. Anything with a lithium-ion pack inside has to be handed in separately.

Recycling the board and battery

Sending a battery product back

Lithium-ion batteries are dangerous goods in transport. Talk to us before you return anything that has one, and we will book a carrier that accepts it. If a battery looks damaged, has swollen, leaks or has got too hot, do not post it: message us first and wait for our instructions.

Riding rules in Great Britain

The short legal version: motor vehicle status, with no route onto British roads. Anywhere the public has access is ruled out, from roads, pavements and cycle tracks to parks and car parks; riding there is an offence, and the police can take a board away if it is used in the wrong place.

Private land only, if the owner agrees. Every ride: helmet on, guards on wrists, elbows and knees, and an adult watching whenever a child rides.

Recommended age: from around 8, with adult supervision. Maximum rider weight: 120 kg.
